Description
Riot is a dual language – English and Yemeni Arabic – playscript about the anti-Yemeni riots in South Shields in 1930. Yemenis employed on British ships had began to settle in South Shields. Many locals saw them as good workers, sober in character, others sought to deny them jobs and homes. Peter Mortimer explored the history of this forgetten incident, working with descendents of the original Yemeni settlers.
